The Zig Zag Track begins on the south bank of the Inangahua river opposite Reefton town on Rosstown Road. It is signposted both at the Inangahua River and at its top end. It is a hard gravel two-way, shared track of approximately 2km. The track climbs moderately partly through indigenous forest and is the start of the Globe Hill Track, from where you can head to the Globe Mine, or complete the Reefton Lookout Loop (~10k m, returning to Reefton via Soldiers Rd). Several views of Reefton town and the Paparoa Mountains (on a clear day) can be enjoyed on the way up the Zig Zag track.
Mountain biking the Zig Zag track presents little technical difficulty other than a steady uphill gradient one way. Bikers note that in places the gravel can be a bit marble-like in dry conditions, necessitating caution if descending. However, it offers several sections of long flowing single track descent. Allow at least 20 min for a casual ride up - getting down in less than 5 min is possible.
Zig Zag surface is in good condition despite the recent rain. There are a couple of trees down towards the top of the track which can be walked under easily.
