Reefton is a key stop on the 3000km Tour Aotearoa bikepacking route, offering riders a chance to rest, refuel and explore our historic West Coast town. Our famous Big River route is one of two options through Reefton, offering a more challenging ride through the region’s historic mining landscape on the Big River 4WD Road and Waiuta to Big River Track.

Merrijigs Hotel Snack Bar

Keep an eye out for the infamous Merrijigs Hotel Snack Bar - a roadside stash of sweet treats for weary Tour Aotearoa brevet riders at the old Merrijigs Hotel site on Big River 4WD Road. It’s been fuelling cyclists since 2018. If you head through in March and April, grab a treat and enjoy a little piece of Reefton trail culture.
